As Labor Day in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia rapidly approaches, the harvest season has kicked off with a bang. The kids are back in school and fresh apples are running across our packing line. Newly harvested Ginger Golds and Galas our crisp, fresh and tasty.
After a harsh frost in late April, which created some problems for our cherry, nectarines and peaches, the weather has been quite conducive for producing high quality fruit. We have had a nice combination of rain, warm temperatures and cool nights to produce good-sized apples with a beautiful finish.
The beautiful landscapes of the valley along with lime rich soils help produce apples that are rich in flavor. This season will be no exception.
We look forward to another wonderful season with our retail, wholesale, gift box and Apple of the Month Club members. Also be sure to check out our new website. It is full of great information about Turkey Knob, the orchards, the packinghouse and, of course, the apples.
